Networking & sustainability
The One Health approach is based on the understanding that human, animal, and environmental health are deeply interconnected. To address complex health challenges such as vector-borne diseases, it requires a range of expertise, such as epidemiologists, virologists, veterinary, economists, environmental scientists, medical entomologists, specialists in human and social sciences, etc...
Over the past decade, MediLabSecure project gathered and reinforced a unique One Health network in 22 EU neighboring countries connecting in each country 5 complementary sectors of the One Health approach. 111 national reference laboratories and public health institutions gathering more than 200 experts, aim to strengthen their preparedness and response capacities to face vector-borne diseases threats.
Empower and sustain the One Health Network
Through OneHealthSecure project, the network is now initiating an empowerment phase to ensure sustainability and ownership of the project. Active involvement of participants will be encouraged through:
- Support members’ institutes empowering though a call for application to fund their local (national or regional) initiatives.
- Identification of One Health catalysts (ambassadors) and support their advocacy activities
- Reinforce knowledge transfer to stakeholders by organizing a workshop on policy brief writing & supporting restitution workshops to transfer project outputs to policy makers at national or regional level.
- Support publication of scientific articles by organizing a workshop on how to write and publish a scientific article
Support the local One Health workforce development
Nowadays, the One Health concept is understood at operational level. However, some challenges remain in ensuring the sustainability of integrated surveillance systems using the One Health approach. A major challenge is the shortage of human resources trained in the One Health approach in some countries. That is why One Health secure project’s objectives will:
- Enhance the local One Health workforce curricula by supporting the development of One Health training modules.
- Fund the participation of members in One Health modules
